An Oral History Project

Baida

Baida’s husband, an Iraqi-Canadian who worked in oil, was killed in a bomb. Baida is unable to gain asylum to Canada, although her daughter has been accepted. Badia is an Iraqi Christian widow who was married to an Iraqi Canadian who worked for an oil company. Her husband was killed (she believed because he worked with the Westerners). Baid has one daughter. Because her daughter’s father is Canadian, her daughter could immigrate to Canada, but because Badia’s husband is dead, she is not technically married to a Canadian citizen and hence could not immigrate to Canada. So, at the time of this interview, the two of them were stuck in Amman.
